Prayers of Forgiveness

Monday evening August 3rd 7:30pm

Ballard Odd Fellows Hall
1706 NW Market Street
Seattle, WA 98107

a sweetheart is a mirror
a friend a delicious cake
it isn’t worth spending
an hour with anyone else

Ghazal 119

i don't need
a companion who is
nasty sad and sour

the one who is
like a grave
dark depressing and bitter

a sweetheart is a mirror
a friend a delicious cake
it isn't worth spending
an hour with anyone else

a companion who is
in love only with the self
has five distinct characters

stone hearted
unsure of every step

lazy and disinterested
keeping a poisonous face

the more this companion waits around
the more bitter everything will get
just like a vinegar
getting more sour with time

enough is said about
sour and bitter faces
a heart filled with desire for

sweetness and tender souls
must not waste itself with unsavory matters

Special Mevlevi Gathering at the Duwamish Longhouse

The Mevlevi Order of America invites you to an evening of devotional music and poetry, prayer, movement, and blessing:

Monday July 20th 7:30pm
Duwamish Longhouse,
4705 W. Marginal Way SW
Seattle, WA 98106

The intention of this evening is to offer spiritual support for the Duwamish tribe, the original inhabitants of what is now the city of Seattle. Recently the tribe was denied federal recognition, which prevents them from receiving the health, education, and economic support that they are due. This denial of their existence is harmful on many levels, and we join in their prayers for acknowledgement and restitution.

The evening is fully participatory. There is no separation between guest, witness, presenter, reciter, or musician. Together we create a Healing moment, to benefit all those in need, everywhere, throughout time. We call this Ayin I Cem, a spiritual ceremony utilizing music and the whirling prayer meditation practiced by those who follow the path of Love in the spiritual lineage of the great Sufi mystic poet known as Rumi.
All are welcome.
Please note that this event replaces our regular Zikr of Presence at the Odd Fellows in Ballard. The regular schedule will resume next month.

This opportunity came to us through Timucin Cevikoglu, our beloved music teacher, who met Cecile Hansen, Chairwoman of the Duwamish tribe, when visiting the Longhouse on his recent stay in Seattle.

Looking forward to being with you in prayer for the Duwamish people,
