From the large jug, drink the wine of Unity,

So that from your heart you can wash away the futility of life’s grief.

-Hafiz (Translated by Thomas Rain Crowe)

In the Zikr of Presence, we move deeply into the current of Mevlevi tradition, engaging in a spiritual practice common to many Turkish sufi orders.

Throughout history, the different orders would come together to remember God through movement, prayer, music and devotional poetry.

Under the instruction of our musical guide, Timucin Cevikoglu, we have instituted this monthly meeting, supporting and enlivening our prayers with traditional sacred music.

In continuing this tradition in a contemporary context, we spontaneously co-create a dance towards unity, remembering our shared source and renewing our commitment to walk a path of awareness and peace.

Through recitation of the divine names, music, and movement, with a heart torn open and longing, the Sufi seeks to remember God, to part the veil between Lover and Beloved, to dissolve into the Sea of Oneness.

All new and old friends are warmly invited to join the Seattle Mevlevi Circle this Monday, April 15th at 7:30pm in Ballard as we continue a traditional practice intended to deepen spiritual intimacy. In remembrance,  we will move, chant, sing and whirl through transformative and ecstatic states as a community.
